Hair Loss is a medical condition, hence the importance of seeing a doctor to firstly diagnose your condition, then formulate a plan for management lifelong.
As the first step, you will have a private one-to-one consultation with our head doctor - Dr Young – both options of video call or clinic visit are available. The consultation usually takes 30-45 mins and is highly educational and collaborative.
During consultation, your medical and hair loss history, physical wellbeing, goals and expectations will be discussed. Following a diagnostic assessment of your area of concern, Dr Young will examine your scalp with a Dermatoscope, he will then come up with a plan for the best course of action for your recommended procedure and discuss results you can expect. Your pre operative plan and photos here also form part of your medical records.
If you have any medical condition eg. Diabetes, we will assess and work together with your Endocrinologist. This is the importance of seeing a doctor for your consultation.
The consultation fee is $200 and is redeemable towards a Hair Restoration procedure. - Surgery
When we have agreed a surgery date that suits your schedule, you will receive a phone call one day prior to your procedure from one of our friendly team to go over what to expect on the day. Please note, in most cases hair transplant surgery is a full day procedure, and you will be expected to arrive at the clinic at 8am unless agreed otherwise.
You’ll be greeted by Dr Young who will explain your procedure to you, and go through risks and consent forms in detail.
As you will be in the Procedure Room for a while we make sure you have music and TV entertainment to your taste so you can immediately feel relaxed and distracted.

| Dr Wayne Young Founder of Young Hair Restoration Clinic & Head Physician MBBCH (WITS) AMC AACS (USA) One of the most experienced cosmetic physicians in Sydney, Dr Wayne Young was born in South Africa and had his first experience in Plastic Surgery whilst working in a clinic in 1989. He completed medical school at The University of Witwatersrand, attending two terms in Plastic Surgery, one at Johannesburg General Hospital and the Concord Hospital in Sydney. Dr Young then moved to London to further his surgical training, where he worked in the surgical departments of The Royal Free and The Royal Marsden. Your journey to hair restoration starts with initially sending us an email with some relevant photos or your area of concern. Upon receipt, Dr Young will review your photos, and we will schedule a consultation for you to see Dr Young in-person.
You will see Dr Young at your consultation, it is law, but even more importantly you really both want to make sure there is a complete understanding and the journey starts on the correct footing!

Hair loss happens when the cycle of hair growth is disturbed, resulting in the hair shedding quicker than anticipated, not growing as expected, or not growing back at all. The most typical cause of hair loss is genetic male and female pattern baldness. However, the following conditions can cause hair loss in men and women:
- Medical conditions, that include thyroid issues and anemia
- Medication that affects hair growth
- Stress
- Excessive strain on the hair scalp by certain hairstyles
- Hair-pulling habit in which there is an irresistible impulse to pull out hair (trichotillomania)
- Immune system disfunction where patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Hair loss is more typical in men because androgenic alopecia - the most common form of hair loss is associated with a testosterone by-product called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Men have far more testosterone than women, hence they are much more likely to be impacted by this.
Medically speaking, alopecia occurs when enzymes in the body transform testosterone into DHT. And since testosterone is a male hormone, women are not as dramatically affected by this conversion as men.
Once the body is pulsing with DHT, the hair follicles are at risk. That’s because the main job of this by-product of testosterone is to strike hair follicles by shrinking them. This makes it difficult to grow hair and makes it hard for follicles to function.

" I was seen by the consultant and he drew some hairline that was quite conservative, but when I went to the clinic on the day of the procedure, he wasn't there, and the technician then drew something much more aggressive, and then made it even more lower than I wanted. " This patient has requested a full correction of his hairline that this "other" clinic created.
(It is also part of Medical Board Guidelines (1/7/2023) whereby the first cosmetic consultation must be done by the doctor performing the procedure)
On the day of your procedure, the doctor will see your donor area for the first time, meaning if the doctor foresees any issues achieving quotes results, you will only be advised of this right before the operation. In the case of some clinics there are FIFO workers who will attend to you for your booked surgery, and this is the first time you meet them.
All post-procedure appointments are also held with Dr. Young. In most clinics, you will meet with a consultant, who wasn’t present during your surgery. But not at Young Hair – where you will always be consulted by Dr. Young himself to receive consistency in the treatment plan.
You will be invited to come in for follow-up appointments at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months.

Here is what happens on the day:
- The donor is prepared by shaving the area to keep the hairs 2-3mm long.
- Hair follicles are extracted one by one from the donor area of the hair using cutting-edge instruments. The most important is the punch that rotates, oscillates, and has an adjustable depth, allowing Dr. Young to set exact extraction depth to suit the follicles and the scalp. This reduces the possibility of any injury to the healthy hairs.
- The donor area is usually the back of the head, where the hair is not affected by hair loss. Dr. Young will consider the number of hairs required and the density of follicles in the donor area against each when deciding how many follicles should be extracted and implanted. This is to prevent over-harvesting from the donor area.
- The follicles will then be prepared for implantation. They are separated into groups of hairs, sorted and placed in an active plasma solution that assures the health of the extracted hair follicle.
- The extracted hair follicles are placed into the area of concern. The implantation is done very carefully to correspond with the direction of the growth of your existing hair to restore a natural-looking hairline, so that it is undetectable if you even had a hair transplant.
The part of the procedure where you will feel the most pain is the numbing injections. It takes up to 10 minutes to administer and Dr. Young will use a vibrating device to the area being injected to help to reduce the discomfort. The administration will need to be repeated after 2 or 3 hours, but we aim to do so while the scalp is still numb so that the injections are not uncomfortable.
It is not uncommon to feel slight discomfort during the extraction and implantation of the hair, however, it is manageable. Your safety is our priority, so the exact safe dose must be calculated and adhered to on your surgery day.

After your procedure, when you are about to go home (note, this procedure does not require an overnight stay) we will provide you with everything you require to take care of your new hair in the first few weeks, including comprehensive 30 days instructions for washing your hair, your hair stray and prescription for medication to manage any discomfort.
Patients are advised to wait 5 days after the procedure before undertaking a hair wash. By around day 14 the patient’s head should be scab free.
