Dr Wayne Young MBBCH AACS

Founder & Head Physician
Hair Restoration Doctor, Sydney

Dr Wayne Young is the Founder and Head Physician of Young Hair Restoration in Sydney. He focuses on doctor-performed FUE hair transplantation, including refined hairline work, total unshaven hair restoration, and carefully planned long-term treatment strategies. Every patient is assessed by Dr Young personally, and every procedure is performed by him from start to finish.

At Young Hair, the focus is not simply on moving grafts. It is on careful assessment, age-appropriate design, donor planning, and creating results that look natural not just immediately after surgery, but over time. Dr Young believes hair restoration should be thoughtful, personalised, and performed with direct medical accountability throughout the entire process.

Why Patients Choose Dr Young

100% doctor performed
All procedures are performed entirely by Dr Young. He believes it is inherent to the role of a doctor to apply years of surgical training and clinical judgment directly to the patient, rather than delegating the essential parts of treatment.

Personal continuity of care
Dr Young sees every patient personally for in-clinic pre-operative and post-operative consultations. This continuity allows for a more consistent, complete, and closely supervised approach to hair restoration.

Long-term planning
Hair restoration should never be reduced to a simple graft number. Dr Young places strong emphasis on donor management, future-proofing, and planning for long-term natural outcomes. This forms part of his Sustainable Hair Restoration.

Refined, individualised treatment
Every patient presents differently. Hair characteristics, donor capacity, age, pattern of loss, goals, and long-term risk all need to be considered carefully before a treatment plan is made.

Dr Young’s Background

Born in South Africa, Dr Young first gained exposure to plastic surgery in 1989 while working in a clinical setting. He completed medical school at the University of Witwatersrand and undertook plastic surgery terms at Johannesburg General Hospital and Concord Hospital in Sydney. He later moved to London to continue his surgical training, working in the surgical departments of The Royal Free and The Royal Marsden. On returning to Sydney, he trained extensively in general surgery for four years and then in plastic surgery for five years, working alongside many of Sydney’s respected plastic surgeons across major teaching hospitals including St Vincent’s, Westmead, Prince of Wales Hospital, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

This foundation in plastic surgery and aesthetics informs the way Dr Young approaches hair restoration today: with precision, judgement, safety, design awareness, and respect for long-term naturalness.

Hair Restoration Focus

Since 2014, Dr Young has been dedicated to hair restoration and has performed more than 2,500 procedures. He has trained in FUE techniques internationally, including in India, Greece, and Bangkok.

His approach draws on both surgical experience and an aesthetic eye. In hair restoration, technical ability matters, but so do restraint, planning, and design. A well-executed procedure should look refined, age-appropriate, and believable, while preserving the donor area for the future.

Dr Young’s work is particularly relevant for patients who value:

  • doctor-performed treatment
  • a more personalised assessment process
  • total unshaven options
  • thoughtful long-term donor planning
  • natural, non-template results
  • careful management of more complex or higher-stakes cases

Practice Philosophy

Dr Young believes that good hair restoration is built on these principles:

1. Proper medical assessment
A good plan starts with understanding the patient properly, not just reviewing photos.

2. Direct doctor involvement
Consultation, planning, design, surgery, and follow-up should be medically led.

3. Long-term donor stewardship
Donor hair is finite and should be used strategically.

4. Natural design
Hairline and density planning should be appropriate for the individual and remain believable over time.

5. Continuity and accountability
The doctor responsible for the plan should also be responsible for carrying it through. Start to finish with Dr Young.

6.Kaizen
The continuous reassessment and refinement of the process of hair restoration.

Areas of Focus and Innovation

Dr Young continues to refine his practice with a strong focus on careful planning, evolving technique, and patient-centred treatment design.

These areas reflect a broader philosophy: hair restoration should not only address current concerns, but should also support a patient’s long-term appearance and options.

A More Complete Approach to Hair Restoration

At Young Hair, the goal is not template treatment. It is complete care.

That means looking at the whole picture:

  • the pattern and likely progression of loss
  • the quality and strength of the donor area
  • medical and non-surgical considerations
  • hairstyle, age, and aesthetic goals
  • the need for a result that still looks right years from now

For many patients, this level of planning is just as important as the procedure itself.
